Why You Shouldn’t Buy Your Followers

Many attorneys struggle to gain new followers once they set up their social media profiles. We are often asked the question, “Should I buy my followers?” We highly recommend that our clients do not engage in this practice. Although it may sound like an easy way to build your online presence, there are very serious and harmful consequences to this technique. If you average one new follower or fan per month and suddenly you begin receiving hundreds or thousands- that becomes a red flag to search engines.

Google, especially, will penalize you for manipulating your social media followers. A few years ago, BMW’s website was removed from Google search results for more than six months for participating in Black Hat SEO. Bottom line: don’t do it. Organic social media activity is more time consuming; but worth it in the end.
