Tips to Increase Your Law Firm’s Google Business Profile Visibility

Google My Business was rebranded to Google Business Profile in November 2021. The rebrand followed Google’s attempt to move features out of the Google My Business app directly onto Google search and maps. The rebrand has given Google Business Profile users a lot more control and a lot of added features to optimize their locations online. We recently attended a webinar led by a professional trainer for Grow with Google on ways to optimize your Google Business Profile for improving local marketing & SEO.

Did you know that up-to-date business profiles are 70 percent more likely to attract location visits, and 50 percent more likely to lead to conversion?  When it comes to your law firm’s Google Business Profile, make sure your firm is doing the following:

Provide Basic Data. When consumers find your business on Google, provide them with the most relevant information they need:

  • Your law firm’s name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Website URL
  • Opening hours
  • Business description

Present Your Business with Rich Media. Businesses that add photos to their Business Profiles receive 42% more requests for directions on Google Maps, and 35% more clicks through to their websites than businesses that don’t. Upload professional photos. Provide a panoramic view of your law firm. These photos and videos will help engage your audience by adding relevance and trustworthiness to your profile. And for that reason, it has the power to increase your visibility, too.

Maximize Your Business Description. Keywords are very important on your website; they are also very important on your Google Business Description. You are allotted 750 characters in your Google Business Description. Maximize the use of keywords. Weave these keywords into your description. This description should target your ideal future client.

List Your Services. Make sure and define the primary category for your business profile on Google as the most impactful and specific categorization of your business.

More Client Reviews. Research shows that high ratings and response rates on your customer feedback increase conversions. Ask your loyal, happy clients for reviews on Google. Post a business reply to all client reviews in a timely manner. Google is reluctant to remove negative reviews. These will be removed only if you can prove the review was meant for another business. Remember to always take the high road when responding to negative reviews online.

Share Posts. Google Posts show up at the front of the business profile. Unlike Facebook and Instagram, Google is not a social network. But it does allow you to share news about your business as posts on your profile – and, by that, measurably engage your audience.

Google Q&A: Answer Questions

On your business profile, consumers (and you, as the business) have the ability to ask questions. In return, you are able to answer them as well. This is an excellent way to educate and engage your audience, helping them find out what they need.

Added bonus: the content from the Q&A supports your visibility for long-tail keyword searches.

Utilize Google’s Chat Feature

Read and reply to messages in real-time from your Business Profile

Your customers can get in touch with you in real-time from your Business Profile on Google. You can answer questions, tell your story, and attract more clients. Chat works best as a conversation between your business and your customers. To ensure the best experience for your customers, follow the chat guidelines.

How it works…

Once you turn on chat, customers will find a “Chat” button on your Business Profile and will be able to message you at any time.

  • Messages will appear in your Business Profile on Google. You’ll receive notifications for incoming messages.
  • You can customize the automated welcome message that customers will get when they message you.
  • You can share photos with your customers in the chat.
  • If multiple people own or manage your Business Profile, each one can chat with customers.
  • Customers will find your Business Name in the chat dialogue.
